Early Life
I was raised without a television in the house, so I had to find other ways to entertain myself.
I was an only child living in an isolated cabin in the remote mountains of Montana, so I had no brothers, sisters, or neighbor kids to play with. My family was too poor to afford many toys, and I wasn’t the outdoorsy type, so my entertainment options were pretty limited.
So, I became a voracious reader. I checked books out from my school library and the Bitterroot Public Library in the neighboring town whenever we had reason to travel to Hamilton. (The closest town was Corvallis, and it was far too small to have its own public library.) I was always reading.
Momma Tried
I grew obsessed with mysteries, horror, and the paranormal.
My mother was very religious and wouldn’t let me read any horror books. I must admit I snuck a few monster books here and there, but for the most part, I tried to be a good boy and obey her wishes.
Strangely, Mom had no problem with cryptozoological monsters like Bigfoot, Nessie, and the Jersey Devil. In fact, she was interested in them herself! So, I read everything about cryptids I could get my hands on. When I didn’t have my nose in a book about these mysterious and elusive creatures, I was reading mysteries from series such as Encyclopedia Brown, The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine.
Professional Life
My entire professional career has been in the tech sector. I have worked for industry leaders such as Intel Corporation, Google, and others.
While technical work pays well, it has never been where my heart lies. I have always loved writing and refining text until it sings to me from the page. It makes me happy that others have appreciated my skills. It’s so fulfilling when someone asks me to proofread and edit their work or seeks my help writing their résumés. Software and computers cannot give me feelings like these.
My full work history is available on my LinkedIn profile. But I would rather look to the future. I want to bring my skills and passion to your projects to elevate them to the highest levels they can be!
Current Day
I now live in Ohio, and I still love reading—mostly horror and paranormal books with the occasional mystery or action book thrown in. I also really like the bizarro genre. It’s bananas! And, of course, I read many books about grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading. I also write spooky short stories and I’m working on my first horror novel.
A lifetime love of reading and writing and my natural aptitude for language make me a great proofreader.
If you have written something and want it to be the best it can be, I would love to work with you to make it happen!
